There was a clean sweep of team titles for our youngsters, from the Essex County Cross Country Championships staged at the Writtle College at the weekend. In the process they also picked up no fewer than seven individual 'gongs'. Add in a couple of medals from the veteran events, and this proved to be a very good day for Chelmsford.
For the Under 13 Girls it was Lottie Wilkin coming through for the Gold award - and with Daisy Stollery 3rd, Amelia Shipton 5th and Ava King 6th, this was a convincing team win. There was also good backing from Hetty Harrison in 7th and Harriett Matthews in 10th.
To the Under 13 Boys and there was no doubting the win - with Jacob Parrott 2nd, Ethan O'Brien 3rd and Joshua Eida 4th, with backing from Ben Smith in 7th, they were way clear of the opposition. Also here we had Austin Kelly in 11th, Thomas Carter 20th, and Charlie Ryder 21st.
Moving to the Under 15 Girls, not only were they to take the team title, via Kayleigh Atkinson 2nd, Sienna Shipton 3rd, Amelia King 6th and Jemimah Knightsbridge, but such was our packing, with Mara Thomas 9th, Rosie Harper 10th, Lucy Nuttall 11th, and Holly Appleton 17th, the silver medals were also ours. And still we had Lisa Lienermann 19th and Lola Flack 20th.
For the Under 15 Boys, Archie Durham 2nd, Gregory Martin 5th, Jacob Hurrell 8th and William Sweeney 9th provided the winning quartet, whilst brothers Robert and Thomas Birks took spots 18th and 28th respectively.
Amongst the Veterans, the star performance was the run by David Tullett, winning the Over 50 class, with Peter Waite 10th, Peter Tullett 21st, and Mick Bridgeland 85th. Peter, in the process proved to be second in the Over 60's category.
Our Over 40's team was close to being all parents of our youngsters, with Simon Knightsbridge 27th, Nick Hunter 36th, Will Parrott 37th and Simon Bowring 48th. There was only one competitor from the ladies, with Wendy King placing 10th.
One of our Under 13 girls - Ezrah Harrold (pictured) - had a more important race on - and what a performance she put in, to finish second in the English Schools XC Cup Final in Newquay, as she competed for Fitzwimarc School!
