Weekend Round-Up - Gold medals for Veterans and Juniors

23 Aug 2021

Last weekend saw championships taking place at both ends of the athletics age group spectrum – and Chelmsford AC athletes struck gold in both.

Kingston hosted the South of England U17/U15/U13 Championships – and Sam Wright (U15) was again the top performer in a Chelmsford AC vest, taking Gold in both the 80m Hurdles (with a PB), and the High Jump.  Holly Watson was our other medal winner, recording a PB in the U17W 1500m as she claimed a Silver medal.

Maegan Hopkins (U17W Shot) and Will Steadman (U17M 800m) just missed out on medals, finishing 4th and 5th respectively in their events.  Rosie Townley recorded a wind-assisted PB in the U17W Long Jump, whilst also taking 5th place in the 80m Hurdles – and Sienna Shipton claimed a PB in the U15G 1500m Heats as she progressed to the Final of her event.

In Derby, some of the club’s veterans were pitting themselves against the nation’s best in the British Masters Championships – and Geoff Tyler returned home very pleased with two Gold medals – in the M70 Shot and Discus.

Clare St John-Coleman was also a Gold medal winner, taking victory in the W60 Long Jump, before claiming Silver in the 100m, and a PB in the Triple Jump.  Nicole Celestine (W55) was fifth in the Shot, sixth in the Discus, and seventh in the Hammer (where she recorded a PB).
