A number of our athletes were in action at the South of England U20 Indoor Championships at Lee Valley at the weekend – many of them competing at U20 level for the first time this year.
Both Jess Hopkins and Lily Parris came home with medals. Jess took SILVER, with a PB performance in the Shot (12.57m) – while Year 1 U20 Lily Parris broke her 60mH PB in her Heat, and then again in the Final of the event, where she claimed a fine BRONZE medal in a time of 8.74 secs.
Lily found the competition very stiff in the 400m, where she finished fourth in her Heat – while Jess tried her hand at the Triple Jump for the first time, finishing in a creditable eighth place.
Sam Tremelling claimed an excellent fifth place in the Pole Vault, equalling his PB (4.30m) in the process.
Mia Chantree took fourth place in the Long Jump – and sixth in the High Jump – where she was joined by Emma Rattle, who claimed ninth position.
Three new recruits from Braintree were competing in the Chelmsford Green and Gold. Leah Duncan advanced to the Semi-Final of the 60m, where she finished just outside the medals in fourth place. She was also in action in the 200m, where she crossed the line in third place in her Heat. Adam Reid took sixth place in the 400m Semi’s, while Jude Thorne was third in his Heat in the same event.
Seb Clatworthy was back in Cardiff for the second weekend running – this time competing in the Welsh Indoor U20 Championships. Seb continued his excellent early season form, adding a further 1cm to his PB, claiming GOLD, with a clearance of 2.03m, and winning his second title of the season!
