The winter season started off last weekend with an Essex championship fixture – the annual Cross Country Relays. At a new venue - Gosfield School - it was our Under 13’s that were to excel for us, as they gained victories in both the girls and boys events.
The girls races were first underway and although Woodford provided the first Under 13 through, Kiera-Jayne Atkinson was close at hand. The second lap still found us in second spot. although now Havering were just ahead. This soon changed, for Kayleigh Atkinson was to clock the fastest time for the event and take the team win.
Our B team were also excelling, for after a steady start from Holly Watson they were eventually to finish fourth, thanks to Nneka Okoh and Erin Little as they came up with 6th and 3rd best times overall.
For the boys, Cooper Mills set them off coming through in 4th. Archie Durham then put in a good time, before Will Steadman put us clear as he ran the second fastest for the age group.
Medals also came to the Under 17 Women - Martha Smith, Hannah Bolton and Faye Sweeting comprising the team. Hannah was credited with second fastest for the age group.
Other categories saw our Senior Women placed 6th, with Hayley Pegg, Megan Evans and Kim Johansen. The Senior Men (David Fewell, Peter Waite, Adam Colgrave and Mark Woodley) finished 8th.
The Under 17 Men finished 7th, with Zach Bridgeland, Ethan Reilly and Harry Ladd. Zach recorded the second fastest lap of the race. It was another seventh for our Under 15 Boys – via Samuel Waite, Onyeka Okoh and William Nuttall - whilst the Under 15 Girls were to finish 13th with Katie Brazier, Hannah Waters and Lauren Hazel making up the team.
