Essex XC League Round 3 - dominant displays by the Seniors, and the U13 Girls

14 Nov 2015

In today’s third round of races in the 2015/16 Essex Cross Country League in Cambridge there were team victories for the Senior Men, Senior Women, Veteran Women – and a resounding triumph for the U13 Girls team.

In extremely wet conditions, the U13 Girls were utterly dominant in their race.  Rising star Martha Smith claimed victory by almost 30 seconds – and with the support of Georgia Tombs (2nd), Faye Sweeting (4th), Hannah Bolton (5th) she led the team to an outstanding victory which will take them to the top of their league table.  Evie Smith was 13th, and Tia Cocca 15th, underlining what a wealth of talent the club has in this age group.

U17 Jodie Judd once again led the Senior Women’s team to victory, consolidating their position at the top of the table.  Her third place finish was supported by Gemma Barry (8th), Sally Judd (9th) and Rebecca Cole (10th) to give the Ladies a comfortable win, ahead of Colchester Harriers.   Sally also contributed to the Vets team victory, assisted by Wendy King (14th) and Jo Smith (24th).

The Senior Men were led to their success by Grant Twist (3rd) - with Mark Sandford (4th), Matt Granger (8th), Stephen Woodford (14th) and Darren Blackwell (25th) ensuring triumph over second placed Colchester Harriers.

The U17 Men’s team of Jordan Denyer (11th), Nathan Brearley (15th), Harry Tullett (22nd), William Gray (28th) and Alex Smith (29th) took third place in their race – and the U15 Girls team (Lucy Aitchinson – 9th, Thea Smith - 30th, and Josie Tullett – 36th) finished 6th.

The U17/20 Women’s team were one short of a full line-up, but Rachel Broome (4th), Megan Williams (9th), and Emma Perks (12th) battled to third place overall.  Following her move from CAT’s, Lydia Callen ran for the club for the first time, but as a non-scorer.

The U13 Boys (Scott Thomas and Thomas Woodward) were also short of a full team – while in the U15 Boys category, Zach Bridgeland (6th) was unfortunately our only runner.
