The England Athletics U15 and U17 Combined Events Championships, at the EIS in Sheffield, provided many personal bests for Chelmsford AC athletes, which in turn brought about two medals.
The highlight has to be the performance of Sam Wright, with not only first place, but also with a score that puts him at the top of the UK ranking list.
Sam, with his 1.96m at Lee Valley in January already tops the lists in the High Jump, is second in the Long Jump with 7.17m in Sheffield last month, but now also features 3rd in the 60m Hurdles with his 8.20s in this latest event.
In the U17 Women, Sophie Catchpole had a couple of no jumps and then had to play safe, resulting in a Long Jump way below her best and resulting in a misleading final place as to her true capabilities.
At U15 level it was an outstanding performance by Milana Thorpe (pictured) to take the third place medal with Amelie Scott in 8th, having also achieved PB’s en route.
Harry Lee, in the U15 Boys event was also to achieve PB’s, to justify his placing in the top ten.
