Our youngsters were again in sparkling form when competing in the Essex Schools Cross Country Championships at the Writtle College, as they played the leading role in their Mid Essex team winning three categories, and placing second in another.
One must remember that the age groups differ from those used at club level - here the second year Under 13's move into the Junior age group- and likewise, the other groups follow suit.
In the Junior Girls event our Under 13's performed well, with Daisy Stollery 10th, Rosie Hopper 11th, Lottie Wilkin 12th and Mara Thomas 16th, whilst Jemma Knightsbridge in 21st place gave good backing.
To the Intermediate Girls, and here there was a Silver medal for Holly Watson as she led the team through, with backing from Sophie Cottam 6th, Lucy Nuttall 10th, Amelia King 11th, Holly Appleton 15th and Mia Bowring 19th. One other club member, but in the colours of North East Essex was Kiera Atkinson, with 7th place.
It was the Senior Boys who brought the third team victory - also giving William Nuttall great satisfaction with an individual Gold medal, whilst Joseph Perry came away with the Bronze. Sam Waite 6th and Thomas Woodward 8th were the other Chelmsford members in this team.
Just missing out on team success were the Intermediate Boys, where Archie Durham 6th, Greg Martin 13th and William Sweeney 15th played their part in the team placing second place.
As it is usual for the first nine in each group to be selected for Essex we can expect a good showing of our youngsters going to contest the All England event being staged in Kent in March.
