Senior team to retain place in British Athletics League Division 2

16 Aug 2019

We have just received news from the British Athletics League that despite technically finishing in the relegation zone in Division 2 this year, due to other changes in the league, Chelmsford will NOT be relegated!

This is fantastic news, and due reward for the performance at the last match of the season in Glasgow, where the team strained every sinew to maintain their place in Division 2, and took third place on the day.  With our talented youngsters producing some outstanding displays, and some of our top experienced athletes starting to return from injury, the team was able to demonstrate that they can be a real force at this level next year.

Provisionally, our opposition in Division 2 next year will be:

  • Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harriers
  • Crawley AC
  • Notts AC
  • Bristol & West AC
  • Southampton AC (relegated from Div 1)
  • Tonbridge AC (promoted from Div 3)
  • Basingstoke & Mid-Hants AC (promoted from Div 3)

Arrangements could still change pending decisions about the proposed National Athletics League (potentially combining the BAL and the UK Women's Athletics League).  More news on that as we have it.

In the meantime, congratulations to BAL Team Managers Paul Owen and Chris Youell - and well done to all athletes who fought so hard to help us maintain our Division 2 status!
